November Fish Recorders Report Now Published
AGM Report:
Reports were given by all officers with the view of all being that the club was in a very good place with membership now at 110. Entries for competitions were good in 2013 and excellent fish were weighed including a number of records.
All proposals were passed except for one important exception:
The proposal to move to 3 rods to fit in with CFSA rule changes was defeated by a large majority so 2 rods with a total of 3 hooks remains the MBAS rule regardless of what other clubs are doing.
The Mermaid Tackle Shop Penzance and JB Baits and Tackle Helston have been added to the club weighing in stations.
The Robert Whipp Trust Trophy will now be based on 5 different catch and release fish.
After a very long discussion it was agreed fish may not be weighed into the club from Swanpool Lake.
All members attending monthly meetings shall be eligible to vote.
Don't forget that on Tuesday 10th December we will be discussing all competition dates and rules- Bath Inn 7.30pm
Election of Officers: The list has been updated on the Home Page to show the changes

A super specimen bullhuss of 13-13 for Steve Beer
The Promenade Competition on Sunday 21st September was a well attended club event that this year was blessed with good conditions and a fair few fish. A number of mackerel were caught with Billy Williams and his dad winning the junior/senior pairs comp and Paul Robinson taking the trophy and pool in the senior competition with his tub gurnard.
The competition proved a magnet for passing locals and tourists with people constantly stopping for a chat. A good advert for the club. Thanks to all those that made the effort to attend.
It was just a shame so many members can't cast straight.

News from meeting of 10th September-(membership stands at 101)
The members present held a minutes silence to remember two past club members who sadly passed away in the last few days. George Hatt from Newlyn and Ron Barber from Mousehole.
It was annouced that the 57th Annual Festival was a great success and made a very healthy profit. Thanks were proposed to all those who helped make it run smoothly. The BBQ was very popular-next year hopefully on a Saturday.
A discussion was held to possible changes and one was that fish could be weighed earlier esp. if they could then be returned alive. The angler would still have to come to the normal weigh in to present a weighing in slip. Some thought this might alter the traditional appeal of the nightly weigh in.We will make decisions on such changes early next year.
Two CFSA proposals were voted on:
1. The meeting voted in favour of going back to 10 fish for CFSA Championships from the 5 fish used in 2013.
2. The meeting voted in favour of abandoning the formula used to set CFSA specimen weights each year and go back to a recorders meeting once every few years to alter weights.

Fished the Minack with Pete Kessell this week. We had a few very small plaice but just before we packed up Peter had a bite and hooked into a beauty. The excitement in Pete's eyes was electric-a huge plaice to follow on from his garfish. Luckilly I was there to photograph the fight as the fish took him into the weed several times before being beaten and hauled onto the rock. We didn't have a net so we were lucky in the end to land it.

At the moment there is a debate going on in the angling world as a whole and in the CFSA in particular regarding the weighing in of fish that are sold or are part of a catch that is sold. We will be discussing this at the CFSA AGM on Jan 26th and I'm sure many more times in the next year. Below are a couple of questions that are doing the rounds for you to ponder. As a club we will need to come to some agreement on the subject of fish being sold.
What's your view?
How do we define a recreational sea angler?
"So, the key question is whether an angler who chooses to take a free
boat trip in lieu of his catch being sold by the licensed boat
operator, should be allowed to weigh in any fish caught on that trip
for an award/cup/trophy/prize that may be offered by a Recreational Sea
Angling organisation such as the CFSA."
"If one believes that is entirely acceptable, it will be, presumably,
perfectly acceptable for a crew member of any licensed vessel who is
commercially fishing with rod and line (and is a member of the CFSA),
to weigh in any fish captured for a CFSA award."
"Likewise, if a CFSA member decides to go commercial fishing for bass
off the shore one day, catches 20 bass, sells 19 but weighs in the
biggest one, that also would be acceptable."

Tuesday 15th January-Yet another famous victory for Mounts Bay Anglers.
A band of young anglers braved the rain and wind to secure a 4-2 victory over the Buff Club Ladies and on top of that won the gallon as well. Lots of money was raised from the gallon and raffle that was given back to the ladies for their charity fund. Thanks to Martin Nicholls for organising the evening and to the ladies who supplied the food. Next match in June -would be lovely to see some of our new members their-being any good at darts a distinct disadvantage!

Monday 14th Jan: Another good club specimen dab for Robert Whipp today 515g- this works out as exactly the same as Paul's dab from yesterday according to Tetley.
Sunday January 13th: Two excellent fish weighed in today. Paul and John -very biblical for a Sunday.
Paul Robinson weighed in a club specimen shore caught dab of 1-2-3 to take the lead in the flatfish competition and
John Hocking has claimed his first MBAS shore record with a haddock of 1-6-0. Well done to you both-I'm having the haddock for lunch tomorrow-meals on wheels for us older members.
The previous haddock record was 1-4-12 by Gary Price in 2011.

A couple of bits of news. First of all the club's senior membership is now over 60 which is brilliant for early January-it will be interesting to see how high we can go this year.
Secondly you might be interested to look at the link below where Edwin Derriman the Chief Officer of Cornwall IFCA talks about illegal bass netting, possible raising of bass min size up to as high as 55cm, creation of no bass fishing areas or sportfishing only areas and other bass related ideas.Makes interesting reading and it will be interesting to see if any of these ideas come into being
