Look at these gorgeous young anglers
Back at the end of the swinging 60s Alan Perkins, Chrissie Cripps and Peter Maddern set off on an adventure to Dingle-in Ireland. In an old Riley that broke down in Exeter and with L plates so Peter could do some of the driving while Alan had a sleep. We had pollack to 8lbs, Dabs to 1-10-0 plus numerous bass and rays. Not sure how we ended up with a colour photo of the caravan. We also took a tent that was borrowed from the scouts in Heamoor.
One night Peter had to be pulled out of the stream on the campsite when he failed to negotiate the bridge across to the tent after a night at a dance in the local village hall.
The year before Alan and Peter had spent a fortnight in Scotland in the same car. There we caught many pollack, coalfish and haddock.

A group of the club's anglers used to meet on the trawlers on a Sunday morning to fish for mullet. This was in the days before anybody had mentioned conservation and all fish were kept and sold on the market under some ficticious boat name.
In the first photo you can see Harry Knowles going through last weeks chitty so he could share the money out. By his feet is a sack of mullet we had just caught. Shame on us.
The second photo features Roy Hobday-then the Club President having his first ever mullet weighed-the 3rd photo shows Roy Powell netting the fish for Roy.
The last photo is of Alison Maddern having a mullet netted by Harry Knowles.

Do You recognise any of these characters. All from back in the 1970s when men were men and it took hours to get to the wrecks- but at least there were fish when you got there. Days when the festival weigh in resembled a fish market.
